Chicken of Wrinkles Part ll
It took me a few minutes to decide on which product to use as a cleanser. In the end I decided to use my whitening cleanser which is foam free, deo free and most important of all, suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
That is why i always remember not to overwash my face becos tap water contains chlorine or other chemicals used in water purification. Instead, I've had a filter installed (if you dont have one, you can use purified water)...solely because the chlorine might be irritating...I never wash my face in hot water, it dries my skin...(and can also scald the skin) only warm water , as it helps to open pores while cold water does the opposite. I only practice using mild facial cleansers that contain moisturizing ingredients...but at the same time I also check its containments, for 'ingredients' that I'm allergic to.
I've stayed away from soap, especially deo soaps, which are very drying to the skin. After washing my face, I'll pat it dry, before patting it again with toner then at which I will apply my moisturizer. I always buy water based lotion which is best for moisturizing my skin without clogging the pores. I also know that antioxidants help reduce the signs of aging on the skin. These are found in food, vitamins and skin care products. So ladies, cut down on your sweets and chocolates...that means me too! haiz..
And so, I found out that the best sources are vitamins A, C & E. These antioxidants destroy free radicals, which causes cellular damage, age the skin and cause skin cancer. There is also evidence that these vitamins A,C and E works best when combined. For example, vitamins C and E works better together than either vitamin alone.
I was told that Vitamin A is often found in both prescriptions and over the counter topical ointments. The Retin A is a prescription topical cream that contains vitamin A. Sorry cant mention any particular brands in particular cos that'll be promoting...
To purchase tis cream, a prescription is needed from the dermatologist. What is so important about Retin A?? It actually treats wrinkling caused by aging and sun exposure. It takes between two and six months to see noticeable improvement...(some patience is needed) The not so good part is about the side effects. There will be redness, burning, itching and scaling, which can last for a few months...(bear with it, if you want smooth flawless skin) In addition, it also might cause photosensitivity... if it sounds scary, then dont try it...dont want to get blamed later on (no insurance coverage)...harhar
I try to avoid sunlight by wearing a sunscreen when outside in the sun. Besides that I also carry my umbrella and shades with me...hehe. But for those wearing foundation, I suggest find one with SPF protection, or even for your pressed powder or watever else that u usually apply on your face...
For pregnant women I advise do not use this cream (Retin A), as it can cause birth defects in the unbornchild. So, just stick to your umbrella and shades for the time being.
Besides that other options to be chosen from is Retinol, which is a natural form of vitamin A. There are fewer side effects with Retinol than with the stronger Retin A. Using antioxidant creams containing vitamin C or E may increase the benefits of retinol... These are sometimes found combined in one cream, or can be applied separately...
So, what are you waiting for?? Go get started...I know I'm going.

Interesting read! :) I've always loved cosmetics and skincare products. But I never stick to one thing... Never tried Retin-A. Tried L'oreal's ReFinish Dermabration - REALLY good stuff!!! Esp the Vitamin E's moisturizer - it really does work and reduces dark spots I get from pimples...
Cavalock - No I dont own those Diamond filters..too exp...cant afford..harhar
Hartini - So far I've been using The Body Shop vitamin E cream..only lately Ive changed to Nivea...they r more suitable to our Asian skin.
Unlike those exp brands that I've tried are also gd but they come in really small bottles and they always dont hv stocks...frustrated
very interesting..
very the purple..I like!! heheheh
have a great day, ya!
You should consider getting (or at least borrowing from the library) Paula Begoun’s Don’t Go To The Cosmetics Counter Without Me". I think it is an excellent book.
I’m mot saying you have to believe everything, since you need to use your own judgement and experience (hopefully objective judgement).
Beauty therapy will be your next oaccupation I see! My skin is super sensitive and now with the dry weather I have to use toner and moisturiser everyday. The only one that I find suitable for my skin at the moment is... oops will get back on that one - I forgot what it's call lah!!! Despite been using it for months!!! Jee weez! Goldfish memory or what?
Richard - Thank you very much for recommending the book, I find the book very resourceful and so I would recommend the others to read it too...at least you have someone pro giving you advice
MJ - Me a beauty therapy...hmmm not sure if Im qualified for it...actually Im more of a counsellor..hee
Hi Sassy,
Your topic is very interesting. I think you're concern with your skin.
For seven years I've been using the same kind of product but only my hubby stopped because I am was using alcohol which is not good.
It's been six months now, I am using ProActive and I like it.
How about you, have a tried that product yet?
Raquel - Thank u for ur comments...well, I think everyone shd be concern bout their skin, not just women only...rite guys
A gd clean appearance and complexion makes a lot of difference to urself...

So that is ur latest picture?
Not too bad huh...just a few wrinkles.
I shud avoid alcohol then.. cos i dont want be just like you. hee3
You bought the book already?
Personally, I prefer not to put products containing titanium dioxide (TiO2) on my skin. It is true that TiO2 is very good at blodding UV and it is non-toxic to humans, but, it is also a very strong oxidizer in the presence of UV.
I should point out that there is no science (I am aware of) to back up my concern. However, the science mindset is "If it is not published in a peer reviewed journal, it isn’t real."
Last summer I started, but did not finish an experiment. I took 3 leaves, coated one with sunscreen containing TiO2, coated the second with moisturizer, left the third as a control. At the end of the day, the control leaf flat and a little limp, the other two leaves curled in towards side I had coated. I don’t know why, but I have some ideas. Unfortunately, it rained the next few days and my experiment was washed out and I did not go back to it. My hypothesis is that the leaf coated with sunscreen containing TiO2 will break down faster then the other two.
There are commercial applications with use the oxidizing property of TiO2:
(1) self cleaning windows. A thin film of TiO2 is laid on the window, the effect of sunlight on the window helps to break down organic matter.
(2) deodorizing lights. A thin film of TiO2 on the outside of a compact fluorescent lamp produces free oxygen radicals which breaks down odour molecules.
Personally, I try to avoid wearing sunscreen, unless I am going to be exposed to the sun for a very long time (being white and fair, I burn very easily).
Now, one further point you may want to consider is that the UV on your skin produces vitamin D – which is now believed to be a strong cancer preventative. By depriving yourself of sun, you are depriving yourself of vitamin-D and increasing your risks of cancer (research shows that people with moderate sun exposure – including the occasional burn, actually have lower incidence of cancer). You can read a biased article here.
(On an anecdotal note: my mother has cancer. She was diagnosed January-2005 with non-Hodgkin' lymphoma. The initial chemo was unsuccessful and she is into her second round. My mother has always led a healthy life: no smoking, no drinking, exercise, good weight, healthy diet, and no sun exposure. My dad, on the other hand, smoked, drank, had high blood pressure and cholesterol, and worshipped the sun – he’s given up the smoking and drinking – but, in general, his health is better than my mother's. Was it my mother's avoidance of the sun that put her at risk?)
